Manuela was born in Romania, a beautiful and blessed country with fantastic scenery, and moved to Canada, a new and wonderful land.
She has been trained and worked as a licensed pharmacist in both countries, and she decided to retire to become a full-time artist.
EXPERIENCE / SKILLS
Manuela is a self-taught artist and enjoy challenges, loving to discover.
She started painting with oil colors on stretched canvas using brush, palette knife and, recently, after many years, she decided to begin something else, more interesting, the cold wax medium.
Cold wax and encaustic medium became very attractive to her due to effects on depth, texture, volume, dimensions. During her travels and hikes, she collects barks, lichens, sand and other organic materials she feels connection with and she incorporates it in her paintings.
More recently, she uses prints from the pictures taken during her trips, as long as of her own paintings and use it as collage in her works.
She adores working with alcohol ink, Japanese paper, loving to build images, rich layers, and experimenting continuously.
During the artistic years, she got influences from the Romanian excellent painters, her art teachers in school, also from her uncle Valer Suciu, painter and teacher back home and continuing in Canada with lessons from Ann Shier, encaustic artist and the stunning work of Vincent Van Gogh, Matisse, Gustav Klimt, Robert Kushner.
As well, she explores art galleries and visits museums from all over the world on line and during her travels.
She is member of VAM ( Visual Arts Mississauga ) , Markham artists Group and associate member of Canadian Society of artists.
